Insurance & Fraud Investigations
Surveillance and evidence collection to detect fraudulent insurance claims or other deceptive activity.
FROM THE INVESTIGATOR
Documenting Insurance and Claims Fraud
When a claim doesn't add up, the difference between a suspicion and a denial is documentation. I work with insurers, employers, self-insured businesses, and the attorneys who represent them to investigate claims that show signs of being inflated or outright fabricated. I'm Eugene Butler, a licensed Michigan private investigator in Flint, and my role is to gather objective, defensible evidence of what a claimant is actually able to do — not to decide a case, but to give the people who do decide it the facts.
Most of this work is surveillance. If someone claims an injury leaves them unable to lift, bend, work, or move freely, but they're spending their days doing exactly those things, video tells that story far better than any argument. I document activity from lawful, public vantage points — timestamped photo and video paired with a detailed written log of dates, times, and what was observed.
I record what happens, including the days when the claimant does nothing unusual, because a fair, complete record is the only kind that holds up when a claim is contested or ends up in court. The honesty cuts both ways here. My job isn't to make people look guilty; it's to capture the truth.
If surveillance shows a claimant living within their stated limitations, that's an answer too, and I report it plainly. Evidence that's stretched, staged, or cherry-picked falls apart under cross-examination and can sink an otherwise solid denial, so I keep the work clean and let the footage speak for itself. I stay strictly within the law.
I observe from public places where there's no reasonable expectation of privacy; I don't trespass, misrepresent myself into someone's home, or use unlawful tracking to manufacture a result. Insurance and workers' compensation matters in Michigan can be scrutinized hard by opposing counsel, and sloppy methods give them an easy opening. Doing it right the first time protects your case.
I'm comfortable coordinating with claims adjusters and defense attorneys, working to the specific questions a file needs answered, and providing documentation and testimony support if a matter goes to a hearing or trial. I'll also tell you honestly when a few days of surveillance are unlikely to produce anything useful, so you're not spending good money chasing a result that isn't there. If you have a claim that doesn't sit right and you need it documented properly, call or text me directly at 810-513-0662 to talk it through.
